La Soufflerie is camping out in London for the Summer

Our rainbow spectrum of drinking glasses in now on sale at Summerill & Bishop

Decked out for summer: West London’s most colourful tableware boutique studs their impressive dining displays with La Soufflerie tumblers. Jewel-like!

Following an exciting visit to this bright and cosy shopping space during our London trip in April, we are pleased to announce that La Soufflerie is now working with Summerill and Bishop.

Inspired by the Festival of Lights celebtrated in Lyon on the 8th December, our classic tea light shape is the perfect size for day-to-day drinks. The strong glass can take hot or cold liquids. They are dishwasher safe. What’s more, the colour will never fade: our pigments are mixed into the designs in the furnace, meaning the jewel brights are part of the glass. We never “paint” colours on externally. Even that summer sun won’t make our fresh green and dazzling blue fade!

Our famous Lyonnais glasses can be purchased from the welcoming team at 100 Portland Road. A wide selection of our colours is available – perfect for matching the strong patterns and prints of Summerill’s table cloth selection. In West London, you’d be hard-pressed to find a friendlier, more stylish, or more personal shopping experience. Tube station Holland Park, this shop is well worth a trip if only to observe their skillful understanding of l’art de la table.

As always, our handblown glass showcases all of the quirks that make it unmistakeable. You can feel the slightly raised “bellybutton” on the base of each glass left from the glassblower’s cane when the glass was still molten. By purchasing our pieces, you are supporting the ancient art of glassblowing by providing work to traditionally-trained craftsmen. This is what our non-profit stands for.

La Soufflerie is delighted to feel at home in this remarkable boutique. We’re sure that the artisan, original designs and unique pieces fit right in. Thank you, Summerill & Bishop!

Candle care

Before lighting your candle, trim the wick to about 1/2-cm in length. This allows the candle to burn more slowly and also avoid unsightly black smoke marks around the edge of the glass.

Every time you burn your La Soufflerie candle, allow it to burn at least until the whole top of the candle is liquid. This will help your candle burn more evenly for each burning session.

After blowing out your candle, re-center and straighten the wick.
When using your candlestick holder, do not let the flame touch the glass. Blow the candle out once it gets close to the candle stick holder. Do not place your candle on a cool surface like marble. If the bottom of the hot candle comes in contact with a cold material, the glass may crack.

Do not burn your candle all the way down. Leave at least 1/2-cm of wax in the container to avoid cracking the bottom.Once you have finished burning your candle, hand wash with warm water and soap until the dried wax melts away. You now have a new La Soufflerie piece to use!

Cleaning care

All plaster and terracotta pieces are not suitable for use with water. You can dust each piece with a dry cloth.

General information

These are entirely made by hand and each creation is unique. Therefore, there may be a slight variation in color, texture, and size between each piece (approximately 1cm-2cm from piece to piece). On the base of each item, you can feel the pontil mark left by the glassblower’s cane. The presence of this mark indicates that the glass was blown freehand. This is the beauty of handmade.

Cleaning care

We do recommend handwashing as much as possible to avoid scratches from the dishwasher and to keep the glass sparkling. But, know that our glassware is dishwasher resistant and can be cleaned in the dishwasher

Colored glass

Pigmented glass is mixed into the furnace during the glassblowing. This means that the glass itself is colored instead of painted. Our glass is durable and no changes or fading occur with continued use over time.
