Thank You to All Our Glass Blowers!

Why is La Soufflerie a charity and why are we thankful for all of the wonderful people we work with?
The art of handmade glass is a tough job. It takes at least ten years to know how to create one of the bottles we design. It is an art passed on from generation to generation. Why is this? Because we are 100% mouth blown. No machines, no intervention. Just the artisan and the melted glass.
Being in front of an oven that is 1200 degrees is only for the hardest of workers.
Recreating the same object over and over again with no help from any machinery is an acquired patience.
The glass blowers we work with are our mentors. Day after day, week after week of blowing the perfect prototype and the perfect glass that you can drink out of. Devoted and never doubting our designs or our philosophy; They accompany us in our dream of keeping glass blowing alive.
It is with profound respect that we work with these amazing artisans. This is why we want to “give back”. We give back our proceeds, we invest in new ovens, new materials and supplies. And our mission is to educate and form new glass blowers to keep this ancient tradition alive. A tradition that is not only 100% sustainable and ecological but that also creates jobs.
We thank all the people we work with: our recycled glass suppliers, the workers in the studio that upkeep our ovens, the talented glass artists that blow our glasses and our faithful studio crew that washes each object when it comes out of the oven.
Today we want to give thanks to our amazing team of glass blowers.
Thank you for your hard work, your devotion, your amazing work in the hardest working conditions. Thank you for your cut hands, your burnt fingers, your smiles and your trust. You are what makes La Soufflerie what it is today !

Candle care

Before lighting your candle, trim the wick to about 1/2-cm in length. This allows the candle to burn more slowly and also avoid unsightly black smoke marks around the edge of the glass.

Every time you burn your La Soufflerie candle, allow it to burn at least until the whole top of the candle is liquid. This will help your candle burn more evenly for each burning session.

After blowing out your candle, re-center and straighten the wick.
When using your candlestick holder, do not let the flame touch the glass. Blow the candle out once it gets close to the candle stick holder. Do not place your candle on a cool surface like marble. If the bottom of the hot candle comes in contact with a cold material, the glass may crack.

Do not burn your candle all the way down. Leave at least 1/2-cm of wax in the container to avoid cracking the bottom.Once you have finished burning your candle, hand wash with warm water and soap until the dried wax melts away. You now have a new La Soufflerie piece to use!

Cleaning care

All plaster and terracotta pieces are not suitable for use with water. You can dust each piece with a dry cloth.

General information

These are entirely made by hand and each creation is unique. Therefore, there may be a slight variation in color, texture, and size between each piece. On the base of each item, you can feel the pontil mark left by the glassblower’s cane. The presence of this mark indicates that the glass was blown freehand. This is the beauty of handmade.

Cleaning care

We do recommend handwashing as much as possible to avoid scratches from the dishwasher and to keep the glass sparkling. But, know that our glassware is dishwasher resistant and can be cleaned in the dishwasher

Colored glass

Pigmented glass is mixed into the furnace during the glassblowing. This means that the glass itself is colored instead of painted. Our glass is durable and no changes or fading occur with continued use over time.
