Plaster Workshop in Seoul

When we were invited by Mirabelle in Seoul, South Korea, to lead our Plaster Experience Workshop, we did not hesitate to say, mais bien sûr! We packed our plaster molds, a few extra layers, and flew straight to the Land of the Morning Calm.

We led exclusive, two-hour workshops to intimate groups in which we shared the techniques behind our plaster pieces. Sébastien demonstrated the process step-by-step, showing how to create our iconic plaster pieces using the very same molds and tools he uses in his atelier back in Paris. Some of the molds are over 100 years old!

Each participant got their hands dirty and learned how to prepare the molds, mix the plaster, and pour it carefully into shape. At the end of the workshop, every participant left with an oeuvre d’art of their very own — cast and created by their own hands. They loved taking a little piece of Paris history all the way home to Seoul.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and brought such wonderful energy to the workshops!

A very special and warm thank you to Mirabelle and the entire Seoul team for welcoming us so beautifully and giving us the opportunity to share what we do at La Soufflerie. After the workshop, we celebrated together and have already started dreaming about the next one!

Candle care

Before lighting your candle, trim the wick to about 1/2-cm in length. This allows the candle to burn more slowly and also avoid unsightly black smoke marks around the edge of the glass.

Every time you burn your La Soufflerie candle, allow it to burn at least until the whole top of the candle is liquid. This will help your candle burn more evenly for each burning session.

After blowing out your candle, re-center and straighten the wick.
When using your candlestick holder, do not let the flame touch the glass. Blow the candle out once it gets close to the candle stick holder. Do not place your candle on a cool surface like marble. If the bottom of the hot candle comes in contact with a cold material, the glass may crack.

Do not burn your candle all the way down. Leave at least 1/2-cm of wax in the container to avoid cracking the bottom.Once you have finished burning your candle, hand wash with warm water and soap until the dried wax melts away. You now have a new La Soufflerie piece to use!

General information

Due to the handmade nature of this item, there will be variations in design and size, as well as slight imperfections, possibly in the form of air bubbles, black specks, pontil and or hand tooling marks, glass or color pattern irregularities; these imperfections are an attribute of handmade craftsmanship and one of the many reasons we love it.

These are entirely made by hand and each creation is unique. Therefore, there may be a slight variation in color, texture, and size between each piece (approximately 1cm-2cm from piece to piece). On the base of each item, you can feel the pontil mark left by the glassblower’s cane. The presence of this mark indicates that the glass was blown freehand. This is the beauty of handmade.

Cleaning care

We do recommend handwashing as much as possible to avoid scratches from the dishwasher and to keep the glass sparkling. But, know that our glassware is dishwasher resistant and can be cleaned in the dishwasher

Colored glass

Pigmented glass is mixed into the furnace during the glassblowing. This means that the glass itself is colored instead of painted. Our glass is durable and no changes or fading occur with continued use over time.
