Newlywed, Sébastien and Valentina traveled the world to learn about this ancient craft of glass-blowing that they had been dabbling with in Paris. Soon they realized there were fewer than five professional glassblowers in the Paris region. In the same year, the two mentors and teachers that Sébastien studied glassblowing with, had both passed away. Then, the only glass-blowing class in the Paris region closed, bringing glass-blowing in Paris to a halt.
Confronted with this situation, Sébastien and Valentina decided to create La Soufflerie, a non-profit organization in 2009 to keep the art of glass-blowing alive. They set up a workshop and opened it for glass blowers to come and show their techniques and savoir-faire. La Soufflerie has now helped glass blowers across the world by supplying tools made in Venice by expert Italian artisans and with funding to build ovens in their workshops.
L’association La Soufflerie continues to give its proceeds back to the glassblowers to keep the art alive. It has also expanded by leading instructional workshops on candle-making and plaster molding.

Before lighting your candle, trim the wick to about 1/2-cm in length. This allows the candle to burn more slowly and also avoid unsightly black smoke marks around the edge of the glass.
Every time you burn your La Soufflerie candle, allow it to burn at least until the whole top of the candle is liquid. This will help your candle burn more evenly for each burning session.
After blowing out your candle, re-center and straighten the wick.
When using your candlestick holder, do not let the flame touch the glass. Blow the candle out once it gets close to the candle stick holder. Do not place your candle on a cool surface like marble. If the bottom of the hot candle comes in contact with a cold material, the glass may crack.
Do not burn your candle all the way down. Leave at least 1/2-cm of wax in the container to avoid cracking the bottom.Once you have finished burning your candle, hand wash with warm water and soap until the dried wax melts away. You now have a new La Soufflerie piece to use!
These are entirely made by hand and each creation is unique. Therefore, there may be a slight variation in color, texture, and size between each piece (approximately 1cm-2cm from piece to piece). On the base of each item, you can feel the pontil mark left by the glassblower’s cane. The presence of this mark indicates that the glass was blown freehand. This is the beauty of handmade.
We do recommend handwashing as much as possible to avoid scratches from the dishwasher and to keep the glass sparkling. But, know that our glassware is dishwasher resistant and can be cleaned in the dishwasher
Pigmented glass is mixed into the furnace during the glassblowing. This means that the glass itself is colored instead of painted. Our glass is durable and no changes or fading occur with continued use over time.
